About the Azure AD Connect video training series

Learn exactly what you need to know, when you need to know it, with our Azure AD Connect video training series. The seven courses in the series contain a total of 19 hours of expert training, packed with demonstrations of live environments and quizzes.

The courses in our Azure AD Connect video training series are based on our highly successful 3-day Azure AD Connect Masterclass which we developed in collaboration with Andreas Kjellman (formerly MIM and Azure AD Connect Program Manager for Microsoft) and Jimmy Andersson (MVP Enterprise Mobility).

An individual subscription for a year’s access to one video training course costs £166 / $199 / €190, and access to all seven courses costs just £334 / $399 / €384. (If you’re interested in a multi-user subscription, please contact my colleague Mark Forbes for pricing information.)

About the Azure AD Connect video training series

Our Azure AD Connect Masterclass has proved itself as live, instructor-led training, and as an online/on-demand offering. But we wanted to make the content even more accessible as IT pros sometimes want instant access to information that relates to a task in hand, plus demonstrations to illustrate exactly what needs to be done.

Get the knowledge you need, when you need it

Whether you are about to perform a custom installation, make some changes to the synchronization rules, configure high availability, rollover a Kerberos Decryption Key, or change the method of authentication, there is a short yet comprehensive video with demonstrations covering what you need to know. The videos also explain the interdependencies and consequences, so you can implement Azure AD Connect with confidence, and quizzes are available to enable you to test your knowledge.

Courses available in the Azure AD Connect video training series:

  • Foundations: 143 mins
To understand the intricacies of Azure AD Connect, it’s important to grasp some essential foundational topics: Active Directory, Azure Active Directory (and its relationship with Office 365), the role of Azure AD Connect, pre-requisites for installation, data clean-up, and express installation. Includes presentations, demonstrations, and a quiz.
  • Synchronization concepts: 142 mins
Azure AD Connect is primarily about synchronization. It is important to understand: about sources of identity objects and attributes, what is synchronized, how objects are identified in source and target systems, the role of the UPN, synchronization flow, typical synchronization scenarios, the management interface, and operational statistics. Includes presentations, demonstrations, and a quiz.
  • Custom scenarios: 126 mins
There’s a lot more to Azure AD Connect than express installation, which covers only the simplest scenario. It is important to understand: how Azure AD Connect supports more complex topologies and multi-forest situations, the role of Azure AD Connect components, custom installation, de-installation, re-installation, and what happens to existing cloud accounts. Includes presentations, demonstrations, and a quiz.
  • Synchronization rules: 357 mins
Modifying synchronization rules can lead to unintended consequences! This is the biggest course in the series, and perhaps the most challenging covering as it does: how synchronization rules work, how attributes are synchronized, how objects are managed and which objects and attributes are involved, how rules can be safely modified, how the out-of-the-box rules work and how you can work in harmony with them. Includes presentations, demonstrations, and a quiz.
  • Authentication: 200 mins
Authentication has many facets and options. This course covers the managed authentication methods (password hash synchronization and pass-through authentication, supported by seamless single sign-on) in detail, but plays down the role of AD FS, now that pass-through authentication obviates the need for it in many circumstances. Device options are covered here as they can also be involved in authentication. Includes presentations, demonstrations, and a quiz.
  • Additional (but essential!) topics: 177 mins
Anyone supporting Azure AD Connect needs to understand: statistics, basic troubleshooting, high availability, AD Connect health and recovery scenarios, how to prevent and manage accidental deletions, how to configure for high availability and recovery with tips about performance, Azure AD regions and instances, and more. Includes presentations, demonstrations, and a quiz.
  • Comparison with MIM (free with other courses): 28 mins
This single video course is available at no extra cost with any subscription. It will be of interest to those with a Microsoft Identity manager (MIM) background.
